James McAvoy Joins Wim Wenders’ “Submergence”

James McAvoy is usually a good go-to when you need a romantic hero with a hint of tragic loss. Even if it’s just his hair, as we’ll see in “X-Men: Apocalypse”. Putting his leading man credentials to the test, McAvoy will star in Wim Wenders’ new drama, “Submergence”.

Erin Dignam has adapted the script from J.M. Ledgard’s novel, which finds James Moore (McAvoy) the prisoner of jihadist fighters in Somalia. As he endures his captivity, his thoughts drift to Danielle Flinders, the women he met and fell for the previous Christmas. She, meanwhile, is thinking of him as her submersible explores the depths of the ocean floor.

So far, Wenders has not found his Danielle, but there appears to time to continue the search, as the cameras aren’t scheduled to role until late March next year. Before that, McAvoy will be seen in “Victor Frankenstein”, which arrives on December 3. And, as mentioned above, he’ll be back as Professor Charles Xavier for “X-Men: Apocalypse”, due for release on May 19.

M. Night Shyamalan Thriller titled “Split”

Deadline have recently reported that the previously announced project with M. Night Shyamalan has now been given a title, and a release date. More info below:

Universal Pictures has announced that the next collaboration between director M. Night Shyamalan and Blumhouse Productions, “Split”, will open January 20, 2017. Shyamalan released his $5M indie-budgeted “The Visit” via Blumhouse and Universal last month, generating $89.3M worldwide. “Split” takes over the previously announced Untitled Blumhouse Productions title on Uni’s schedule, which was dated to be released on January 27, 2017. “Split” is the only release dated on the calendar for the weekend of January 20-22, 2017, the frame after the MLK Jr. holiday stretch.

James McAvoy headlines the supernatural suspense thriller, which co-stars Anya Taylor Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. Shyamalan and Jason Blum are reuniting with their Visit team on this title, working with producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.

James McAvoy Joins “The Coldest City”

James McAvoy is set to join Charlize Theron in the Focus Features’ spy thriller “The Coldest City,” sources tell Variety.

“John Wick” director David Leitch recently announced he would be helming the pic rather than “John Wick 2,” which will be helmed by his partner Chad Stahelski.

Kurt Johnstad penned the pic about an undercover MI6 officer turns up dead on the eve of the fall of the Berlin Wall, and a female super spy by the name of Lorraine Broughton (Theron) must find the list he was smuggling into the West – a log containing the names of every espionage agent working undercover in Berlin. Broughton delves into an underground world of counter-intelligence, defections gone awry and secret assassinations to recover the list, risking her own life to save the lives of the British agents. But, in this world of deceit and double-crossing, one never knows who is working for whom or can really be trusted.

McAvoy recently came on to replace Joaquin Phoenix in M. Night Shyamalan’s next thriller, which will shoot after this film. He can be seen next in Fox’s “Victor Frankenstein” opposite Daniel Radcliffe, which bows on Nov. 25. He will also reprise his role of Professor Charles Xavier in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” which bows next summer.
