Earlier on today, the second trailer for “Split” was released online, and you can watch it in full below. “Split” has McAvoy’s Kevin displaying 23 disparate personalities as identified by his therapist Dr. Fletcher (Betty Buckley). Among them is an unhinged character who kidnaps and imprisons young women, including Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy) for a mysterious but almost certainly nefarious purpose. As Casey and her fellow captives try to escape, they wonder whether other personalities lurking in Kevin’s mind can help. And Dr. Fletcher worries that he’s becoming something new…
The first trailer for James McAvoy’s upcoming film “Split” has just been released online, and you can watch it in full below. “Split”, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, sees McAvoy (taking over a role that Joaquin Phoenix originally circled) playing Kevin, a man whose psychologist (Betty Buckley) has identified 23 individual personalities occupying his brain. But Kevin’s issue is no mere psychological condition: his body chemistry actually changes with each identity. Most of them appear to be harmless, there is one that has recently started to emerge and which dominates the others. This one has malicious, mysterious intent pulsing through him, and Kevin abducts three teenage girls (including The Witch’s Anya Taylor-Joy) for reasons that he won’t immediately reveal.
Universal Pictures has announced that the next collaboration between director M. Night Shyamalan and Blumhouse Productions, “Split”, will open January 20, 2017. Shyamalan released his $5M indie-budgeted “The Visit” via Blumhouse and Universal last month, generating $89.3M worldwide. “Split” takes over the previously announced Untitled Blumhouse Productions title on Uni’s schedule, which was dated to be released on January 27, 2017. “Split” is the only release dated on the calendar for the weekend of January 20-22, 2017, the frame after the MLK Jr. holiday stretch.
James McAvoy headlines the supernatural suspense thriller, which co-stars Anya Taylor Joy, Betty Buckley, Jessica Sula and Haley Lu Richardson. Shyamalan and Jason Blum are reuniting with their Visit team on this title, working with producer Marc Bienstock and executive producers Ashwin Rajan and Steven Schneider.
THR are reporting that James McAvoy is set to replace Joaquin Phoenix in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest untitled thriller:
James McAvoy is in negotiations to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s latest supernatural thriller, an untitled project being produced by genre-loving Jason Blum.
The X-Men actor is stepping into the shoes that seemed initially earmarked for Joaquin Phoenix and would have marked a reunion between the filmmaker and one of the stars of his 2002 hit Signs.
Reasons for Phoenix’s exit were not revealed but sources said a deal was never made, with one source saying the process never got past the discussion stage.
Talking about secrets, the plot of Shyamalan’s project is also under the veil but it is serving as his follow-up to The Visit, currently in theaters. The horror movie has grossed over $53 million on a budget of $5 million.
McAvoy has become one of the key stars of Fox’s X-Men franchise, along with Jennifer Lawrence and Michael Fassbender, and recently wrapped shooting his third entry, X-Men: Apocalypse.
He also has Victor Frankenstein, a revisionist take on the Frankenstein story that co-stars Daniel Radcliffe, awaiting a Nov. 25 release. McAvoy is repped by UTA and United Agents.
