Written By LucianaComments Off on Submergence | First (Russian) Trailer
A Russian trailer for Submergence has surfaced earlier today, which is exciting and not so much at the same time (due language barriers!). The trailer is quite long-running (over 2 minutes) and has plenty of James and Alicia Vikander scenes!
Adapted from the novel by JM Ledgard, it focuses on two people brought together by a chance encounter. James (James McAvoy) is a Scottish spy about to embark on a dangerous mission in Somalia. Danny (Alicia Vikander) is a professor and a bio-mathematician about to head to the bottom of the ocean to explore what lifeforms might exist. They find each other at a plush hotel in France, both taking a chance to relax before embarking on their high-risk missions. There’s an instant frisson and in the space of a few days, they fall in love, eager to see more of each other once they return. But when James is kidnapped by jihadists, Danny is left waiting for a text message that might never come, unaware of his predicament as she prepares for her deep dive.

Our gallery was updated with promotional images and screen captures of the hit movie Atomic Blonde starring Charlize Theron, who plays Lorraine Broughton, a top-level spy for MI6, who is dispatched to Berlin to take down a ruthless espionage ring that has just killed an undercover agent for reasons unknown. She is ordered to cooperate with Berlin station chief David Percival (James McAvoy), and the two form an uneasy alliance, unleashing their full arsenal of skills in pursuing a threat that jeopardizes the West’s entire intelligence operation.
The movie was released on digital platforms (iTunes and Amazon Video) last October 24 and was just released on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Paramount Pictures has dropped the first official trailer for Sherlock Gnomes, the upcoming CG-animated sequel to 2011’s Gnomeo & Juliet.
The follow-up finds Gnomeo (James McAvoy), Juliet (Emily Blunt) and their friends and family in a whole new adventure in London when they discover someone is kidnapping garden gnomes. Sherlock Gnomes (Johnny Depp) is brought on the case.
Gnomeo & Juliet received mixed reviews but was still a hit, making $US193.9 million from an estimated budget of $US36 million. It’s somewhat surprising it’s taken almost seven years to receive a follow-up. The sequel could see an even better performance, with a star-studded voice cast that also includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Maggie Smith, Michael Caine, Stephen Merchant and Mary J. Blige, Elton John on board co-crafting original music, and a higher quality of animation. As for the fart jokes and mankini jokes below, the target audience is very clear.
Sherlock Gnomes will open in the US on March 23, 2018. Watch the trailer below.

The Wim Wenders-helmed romance made its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, where it received strong reviews.
James McAvoy and Alicia Vikander star In the globe-trotting romance pic that follows two storylines that become intertwined. On the eastern coast of Africa, an Englishman named James Moore (McAvoy) is held captive by jihadist fighters. Thousands of miles away in the Greenland Sea, Danielle Flinders (Vikander) prepares to dive in a submersible to the ocean floor. In their confines they are drawn back to the Christmas of the previous year, where a chance encounter on a beach in France led to an intense and enduring romance. Erin Dignam wrote the screenplay, which is based on J.M. Ledgard’s 2011 novel.
Submergence came into the Toronto Film Festival with several distributors having made bids, but UTA decided to wait until after the film’s world premiere Sept. 10 to begin negotiations, which have carried on for the past two months. Samuel Goldwyn Films prevailed as the eventual winner. A source pegged the deal at seven figures.
“We were fortunate to see the film at its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival,” says Peter Goldwyn, president of Samuel Goldwyn Films. “We were moved by the story, direction and great performances of its talented cast. We look forward to bringing the film to the U.S. audience in 2018.”
Added Wenders: “Our film has global dimensions and shows all the beauty of our planet, but also its conflicts and violence. I had Dr. Martin Luther King’s words in capital letters on the front page of my script: ‘You cannot drive out darkness with darkness. Only love can do that.’ That’s why the love story is our driving element. I’m happy we’re in the hands of Samuel Goldwyn Films for our American release.”
Our gallery was updated with high quality poster and production stills, released back in September during TIFF.

Carnegie Hall and the Africa-based creative arts charity Dramatic Need hosted the American premiere of The Children’s Monologues on November 13.
Academy Award-winning director Danny Boyle, who is also a Dramatic Need trustee, directed the production. The play comprised “the unforgettable stories of children growing up in Rammulotsi, a small rural township in the Free State province of South Africa.”
The cast list for the evening included Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, Sebastian Stan, Lakeith Stanfield, Jason Alexander, McKinley Belcher III, Common, Daveed Diggs, Andrew Garfield, Daniel Kaluuya, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, James McAvoy, Audra McDonald, Sienna Miller, Javier Muñoz, Trevor Noah, Susan Sarandon, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Cynthia Erivo, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, rapper Little Simz, and Esperanza Spalding.
The one-night event benefited Dramatic Need and Carnegie Hall. Dramatic Need helps vulnerable children in Africa build hope and self-belief in the face of conflict, trauma, and hardship, using the creative arts as a nonthreatening way of addressing development issues and trauma in children.

Continuing our catch-up updates, pictures of all events James attended this 2017 has been added to the gallery. James kept promoting Split in the first months of the year – and was shamefully snubbed by Academy or other major awards – and later promoted Atomic Blonde, alongside his co-star Charlize Theron.
